MicroClear depth filter sheets are designed for color adsorption, odor adsorption, and flavor refinement applications in industries including the food and beverage industry. They feature high adsorption rates and include a microbial reduction grade (0.45 μm). The sheets we offer for online purchase are 400mm x 400mm square and use S51 carbon from Cabot Corporation.
Contact us for other media shapes, or if your specialized application requires Cabot CGP Super Carbon or G60 carbon instead. All MicroClear depth filter sheet components are listed in the CFR as generally recognized as safe for food contact.

ErtelAlsop MicroClear depth filter sheets are composed of cellulose pulp, activated carbon, and a wet strength resin, with some variants including diatomaceous earth as well.
Activated carbon is highly porous over a broad range of pore sizes. This porosity provides activated carbon’s unique adsorptive properties and ability to remove color and odor. Adsorption occurs when organic molecules bond to the internal pores of the activated carbon filter sheets. This happens in pores slightly larger than the molecules being adsorbed, which makes it important to match the molecule being adsorbed to the pore size of the activated carbon.
The wet strength resin gives the media a net positive charge (called zeta potential), which allows for the highly efficient removal of particles smaller than the filter’s nominal rating. Wet strength resins are also steam sterilizable, free of formaldehyde, and listed as food-safe under 21 CFR 176.170.
